The Sixties was a decade of spectacular political change – war conflagrated in Vietnam, Brezhnev came to power in the Soviet Union, and Castro embraced socialism in Cuba. John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, the Civil Rights Movement ignited unprecedented change in a nation that needed racial equality, and the Apollo program sought to and succeeded in putting a man on the Moon. As the “Swinging Sixties,” the decade was a cultural phenomenon culminating in ‘3 Days of Peace & Music’ at Woodstock.
